For peat's sake

Peatland Programme websiteMcConville Wellburn has launched a new website for the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.

The website will provide a forum and home for conservationists, academics and policy makers to gather and exchange information regarding this important natural resource over the duration of the Inquiry. It is hoped it will also become a valuable resource for all of us who are concerned with this valuable natural resource, offering information and education for the general public.

The Commission of Inquiry into Peatland Restoration has been set up to produce an authoritative set of reports assessing the science on key areas of relevance to policy makers. The Commission aims to bring together experts in science, policy and practice to carry out a thorough review of key peatland issues and a deliver clear scientific consensus about peatland restoration, particularly in relation to climate change, biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Clifton Bain, Director of the IUCN UK Peatland Programme said: “McConville Wellburn created a brand new professional and functional website from scratch for the IUCN UK Peatland Programme within an extremely tight timescale. They interpreted our needs beautifully, and are great to work with.”

Peatlands cover less than 3% of the land surface of the Earth yet they contain twice as much carbon as the world’s forests. Rewetting damaged peatlands reduces the climate change relevant emissions from the drained peatland and provides a long-term carbon sink.
